Arsenal’s Big Swing and Miss
Arsenal made Vinicius Junior their top attacking target of the summer, with the move reportedly approved “at all levels” of the club as they pushed to land a marquee forward before the September 1 deadline.
According to reports from David Ornstein, talks between the two camps had been ongoing since January, with a further meeting held this week before Real Madrid moved to secure the 26-year-old’s long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is the second high-profile attacking target Arsenal have missed out on this window, having already lost out on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea in a £117m deal.
Vinicius Committed Until 2032
Real Madrid confirmed the extension in an official club statement, tying Vinicius down for a further six years and closing off any route for suitors to negotiate a cut-price exit.
The new deal reportedly includes a significant pay rise on his previous terms along with concessions on image rights, addressing the exact issues that had reportedly left the door open for Arsenal earlier in the window.
