Villa Move Ahead of the Chasing Pack
Aston Villa have emerged as the most advanced Premier League suitor for Rafael Leao, holding exploratory talks with intermediaries over a deal for the Portugal international as the transfer window winds down.
Villa’s interest reportedly remains at an early stage, with no formal offer yet tabled to AC Milan. Leeds United had earlier lodged a bid of their own, while intermediaries are also said to have offered Leao to Manchester United, though neither club is currently viewed as being as far along as Villa in talks.
With the summer window closing at 11pm UK time on September 1, any deal for Leao would need to move quickly — leaving Villa, and any rival suitor, only days to get an agreement over the line.
Milan Want Up to £51 Million
AC Milan are said to be holding out for a package worth around €50m (£42m) rising to €60m (£51m) with add-ons for Leao, who has been a mainstay of their attack in recent seasons but has slipped down the pecking order under the club’s current project.
For Villa, a marquee wide forward would add pace and directness to an attack that has often looked short of a genuine game-changer out wide, complementing Emery’s preference for inverted wingers who can cut inside and create chances.
