Liverpool Move Becomes the Priority
Bradley Barcola’s potential exit from Paris Saint-Germain has taken a decisive turn. According to reports in the French and English media, the 23-year-old has turned down the chance to join Chelsea and instead made a switch to Liverpool his clear preference should he leave this summer — drawn, it is claimed, to Andoni Iraola’s sporting project on Merseyside.
The starting point is Barcola’s contract stance. Multiple outlets, including L’Équipe, report that he has formally told PSG he will not extend his current deal, which has two years to run, with talks said to have broken down for sporting rather than financial reasons. Fabrizio Romano has echoed that the player is open to a move and feels Liverpool could be the perfect fit.
That refusal effectively forces the reigning European champions to weigh up a high-value sale rather than risk losing a prized asset for a cut price further down the line.
Chelsea Out, Others Watching
Chelsea had reportedly identified Barcola as a target and approached his representatives, but his refusal to consider Stamford Bridge is said to leave Liverpool in pole position. Arsenal and Bayern Munich have also been credited with interest.
Bayern’s move is reported to hinge on a possible Luis Díaz departure, while Arsenal are said to be exploring other attacking options. That leaves Liverpool, who have made Barcola a priority target after missing out on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, as the front-runners.
Romano has suggested the ball is in Liverpool’s court, with any concrete move dependent on PSG naming their final asking price.
It All Comes Down to the Fee
Valuation is where this saga will be won or lost. Reports diverge sharply: Ben Jacobs has suggested PSG could hold out for around €170m, using the recent Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers transfers as market reference points and factoring in Barcola’s age, World Cup showing and back-to-back Champions League medals. L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi, by contrast, indicates PSG might listen to offers closer to €120m.
Romano, for his part, has cast doubt on the very highest figures, suggesting the eventual number may land below €170m. Either way, this would be a marquee, club-record-scale outlay — and PSG are not a club that typically sells players it wants to keep.
